Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation Director, Atuya Cornwell, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming summer recreation programs, stating, "We're excited to offer a wide range of recreation programs this summer for people of all ages and interests." Cornwell highlighted the diverse offerings available, mentioning, "From adventure hikes and paddles to environmental education programs, there's something for everyone."

Among the featured activities for this summer are an Adventure Hike along the NC Mountain to Sea Trail, with an additional relaxing float down the Eno river to West Point at the Eno. There will also be Environmental Education programs aimed at discovering local critters and plants in backyards, with explorations along the Bolin Creek Trail to learn about native species. Additionally, the popular game of Pickleball will be introduced, offering a fast-paced and fun experience for participants of all skill levels.

In addition to these activities, two family-friendly events are scheduled at Hargraves Park. The Chapel Hill-Carrboro Juneteenth Celebration is set to return on Friday, June 16, featuring food, fun, music, and more, co-hosted by various Town departments and community partners. Furthermore, the Family Fun Day and Book Bag Giveaway, a beloved event, will make a comeback on August 17.

Residents and non-residents interested in these summer recreation programs can start registering on May 7. For more information and to browse the full list of programs, individuals are encouraged to visit the chapelhillparks.org website or pick up printed copies of RECREATE at various locations including recreation centers, the Chapel Hill Public Library, Town Hall, and the Public Housing office.
